Installing DWsurvey

Once you have uploaded the DWsurvey files to your webserver you now need to initialize the database before you can use it. Included with DWsurvey is an install script. The installer is a PHP script that you can run from your web browser. To start the installation process, open your browser and type the HTTP address of your DWsurvey directory, followed by /install/guidedsetup.php, then hit the <Enter> key.

When you run the installation script you will be asked to validate your license. You are required to enter your license number. This was sent to you with your account activation email, but is also available from the Member's Area.

Once you have entered your DWsurvey license number, tick the license agreement checkbox and click on 'Validate DWsurvey'. The script will validate against the Dominion Web license servers for a valid license number (and thus require your web server to have outbound port 80 open on your firewall).

Once you have validated your license you will now be taken to the main installer menu giving options to upgrade or install a new database.

You will be presented with three stages, the first is a dependency checker that your server will actually run DWsurvey. The second stage allows you to install the DWsurvey database. Stage 2 and 3 are required to use DWsurvey. The installer checks which type of databases are configured to work with PHP. Whichever options are allowed you should set the $DatabaseType in config.inc.php to the same value. The preferred option is MySQLi as this is compatible with newer versions of PHP and MySQL.

Click on the 'Install MySQL database' or 'Install MySQLi database' button depending on your preference. The next screen will now test that the database connection details you gave in config.inc.php are correct. If you get an error at this stage you should check the database name, username and password in the config.inc.php file. If all reports as OK, click on the 'Install Database' button.

The next screen creates the database tables for you. If all reports OK you'll be able to continue to the 'Next Stage'.

The installer will now add default, required, data to the database. If all is OK you'll be able to proceed to the final stage, creating the administrator's account. This is required for the administration area. Click on 'Next Stage'

To create an admin account, simply enter a password in the password box and click on 'Create admin account'. Your login details to the administration area will use the username of admin and the password you just entered.

Your DWsurvey installation is now complete, however before you can login to the administration area, there is one last task left. You must delete the install directory. You can do this via your FTP software.

Upgrading DWsurvey

Once you have uploaded the new DWsurvey files to your webserver you now need to upgrade the database before you can use DWsurvey again. The upgrade process is a PHP script that you can run from your web browser. To start the upgraden process, open your browser and type the HTTP address of your DWsurvey directory, followed by /install/setup.php, then hit the <Enter> key.

If, for some reason, you cannot run the upgrade script (which is encoded using the ionCube encoder), you can download manual upgrade files from http://downloads.dominion-web.com/dwsurvey_dbfiles.php

When you run the upgradescript you will be asked to validate your license.

If we cannot validate your license you can still download the manual upgrade files at http://downloads.dominion-web.com/dwsurvey_dbfiles.php

Once you have validated your license you will now be taken to the main installer menu giving options to upgrade or install a new database.

Simply select the version you were running and start the upgrade process all the way up to the latest version of DWsurvey.
